For the purpose of this competition, a Romance is defined as a fictional story which has the development and resolution of a romance between a male and a female as the primary motivation of the plot. A happy ending is mandatory!! Where there is doubt about the classification of a submission the entry will be read by the sponsors, whose decision is binding. All manuscripts deemed not to be romances will be disqualified.

2] Initial judging will be by a group of knowledgeable romance readers using standardised evaluation sheets. Each entry will be read and evaluated by at least three people. Where these results show wide variation, they will be read by another reader. The three top scoring manuscripts will be passed to the final judge for consideration.
