Call for Submissions: What is the Woman Artist Today (special issue of Women's Studies)

Post date: 18 November 2010
Deadline: 15 December 2010

Claremont Graduate University, Call for Papers: What is the Woman Artist Today?

What is the Woman Painter Today?

What is the Women Photographer Today?

Calls for Papers for two Special Issues of Women’s Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal.

Two special issues will gather essays that address specific artist(s) working today or essays that discuss more broadly where women’s painting is today. How are women artists being regarded by curators, collectors, and scholars? Are the politics of art institutions changing? How is women’s art impacting social and cultural values surrounding gender, race, and sexuality today? Does the idea of genius still matter and does it continue to carry the heavy freight of gender? Is the category of women’s artistic production still relevant? Are canonical dynamics changing? What can we anticipate for women artists in the 21st century?

Email a 200-word abstract and CV to Dr. Annalisa Zox-Weaver at annalisazoxweaver@gmail.com.

Deadline: December 15, 2010. Contributors to be notified January 15, 2011.

Final papers due April 15, 2011.
