Applicants must have a strong background in fashion editorial and be up on your city's boutique/indie designer/style scene. Writers will be expected to both pitch their own local stories and write stories assigned to them, in a manner that is intelligent and in-the-know. Experience shooting and editing flip-cam video is a plus.
Please send 3 LOCAL fashion-related writing samples, about 200 words each, along with a brief description of your work experience. Enclose IN THE BODY OF THE EMAIL, not as links or attachments. Applicants without samples will not be considered.
Suggested sample topics include posts on: clothing/accessory from a local designer; a profile of a local designer; a newly opened (or closed) boutique; local, style-related news item; a local take on national fashion news; your take on a style situation (a trend or newsy situation) in your city.
Samples need NOT to have been published; in fact, we'd prefer fresh copy. Please leave over-enthused, swooning language aside; we're newsy, smart and full of info.
Peruse both "The Thread" and "The Feast" blogs on NBCNewYork.com to get a sense of content, tone, and writing style. (Note: The position is NOT for these blogs.)
