The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in Gender/Women's Studies or a closely related interdisciplinary field at the time of appointment, demonstrated experience teaching gender and women's studies courses, a specialization in social change/activism, and demonstrated experience managing student learning communities or campus organizations. The teaching load is 6 courses per year, including but not limited to the introductory course and a course on women, gender, and activism. With over 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students, the campus reflects the wealth of diversity of the Baltimore-Washington region's peoples and opportunities. The Gender and Women's Studies Program at UMBC is an interdisciplinary academic unit committed to expanded understanding of how gender and its intersections with race, nation, class, religion, and sexuality, make a difference in individual lives and in the practices and institutions of human societies and cultures. The program has three faculty lines and more than 20 affiliate faculty. It enrolls approximately 60 undergraduate students divided among its undergraduate major, minor, certificate, and post-baccalaureate certificate programs and is one of the seven participating departments in the Language, Literacy, and Culture, Ph.D. program.
