Call for Submissions: The Edited Collection on Pacific Island Women

The edited collection on Pacific Island women will span women’s experiences in Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. Contributions can be academic papers, research studies, non-fiction essays, personal essays, fiction, poetry, or drama. Any kind of text in any discipline that reflects upon the experience of women in the Pacific will be considered. Deadline for paper submissions: December 17, 2010.

Proposals should be new and unpublished. Topics may include but are not limited

* Status of women in a Pacific island nation or territory
* Theoretical exploration of Pacific island feminism
* Tensions between modernity and traditional cultures
* Experiences of colonization
* Nuclearization in the Pacific
* Gender-based violence
* Migration
* Exotic images of Pacific island women
* Education
* Women in leadership positions
* CEDAW in the Pacific
* Women’s health
* Promoting social change
* Case studies of particular programs aiding Pacific Island women
* Gender socialization
* Influence of the media
* Affects of militarization on women
* Globalization in the Pacific
* Women’s creative self-expression
* Arts and crafts
* Women in the workplace
* Rural and urban women’s experiences

Contributors should submit a full-length text or 500 word abstract and a CV to drhelent@gmail.com by Friday December 17.
