Call for Essays from Women: Awkward Sex

Post date: 23 September 2010
Deadline: 15 December 2010

[Awkward]:
Clumsily or unskillfully performed
Marked by or causing embarrassment or discomfort
Requiring great tact, ingenuity, skill, and discretion.

...Sex can be awkward. Even women who feel sexually confident and powerful have at least one awkward sexual tale to tell. But what makes sex awkward? How does awkward sex make us feel? How do we deal with that awkwardness?

We’re looking for personal essays and artwork from women of all sexualities about awkward first times, casual encounters, sexual relationships, sexual experiments, etc. that address these questions (and/or others).

Essays should be no more than 3 pages long, written in a conversational tone, and identifying details about people should be changed to protect their privacy. Visual work should be suitable for black and white printing (and in jpg format). The final compilation will be published as a booklet or ‘zine, depending on the volume of submissions.

Send your work and questions to awkwardsexzine@gmail.com, along with the name you’d like to appear with your work (feel free to use a pseudonym), your age, and location (city, state, and/or country).

Deadline: December 15, 2010
